Asphalt Art Visual System & Design
Series of Promotional Pieces
Contributors: Individual Project
Duration: 8 weeks

Friendship is a vibrant and diverse neighborhood that gives a great experience of urban living. From people living in the area to the trees in Baum Grove Park, there are so many parts that make up the neighborhood of Friendship. The concept of Unity has come from this idea of visualizing the community in different patterns and overlapping them to show the strong bond and connection of the community as a whole. From eye patterns of people living in Friendship to leaf patterns from Baum Grove Park and rocky patterns from bricks of Victorian houses, my intersection is designed of different parts of the neighborhood connected into one to show the unity of the Friendship community.
The overlap of the patterns are glow in the dark to highlight the relationship between neighborhood and the concept of unity.
Design System
Consists of a logo that uses the overlaps of the circles from the intersection, subtle and soft with a few tints of bright colors to show the comfortable yet vibrant environment of the neighborhood, and a round and clean typeface that resembles the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere of the community.
Promotional Poster
Two versions of print design with brief information about the project to show the audiences what they are expecting on the day of the event. Focused on type, color, hierarchy, and layout of the design system.
Gift Set
People will receive a gift set to take home after the info session of the event. This set will be in a simple logo box with glow in the dark overlaps from the circles in the asphalt design.
Information letter
The box contains an envelope with a letter of a brief description of the Bloomberg Asphalt Art Project as well as the concept of unity.
Coloring Card
The envelope includes a set of cards designed in the outline patterns of the intersection. This is for people to freely color in and decorate the white spaces of the card.
People can connect these cards together, enabling them to have a glimpse of how the Friendship intersection will look like in 2021.
Coloring Utensil
A set of colored pens are included in the box for people to use to decorate their cards.
Interactive Experience
A kiosk will be placed near the Baum Grove Park. A brief background information about the Bloomberg Asphalt Art Project and a bird’s eye view map of the actual intersection will be available for people to zoom in and out to explore the details.
People are welcomed to create their own patterns and save them on the kiosk to combine and connect it with patterns created by others. This interactive machine allows visitors to understand the concept behind the asphalt art as well as enjoy and be a part of the community by participating in creating their own patterns of the neighborhood.
Day of the Event
People will sign up their names in the sign up sheet and receive a name tag pin to help people interact with each other as they paint the asphalt art.
